Three microphones “TRESMIC” system for superior sound
The three-microphone “TRESMIC” system includes both directional and omnidirectional microphones to faithfully capture the depth and fullness of sound. Olympus LS-P4 has an omnidirectional microphone that is positioned between the two directional microphones, to supply a robust stereo effect. This array of microphones provide a wide frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz when the center microphone is on, and 60 Hz to 20 kHz when off.
Natural stereo sound with 90° outward-facing stereo microphones
To get the most out of essential specifications from the Olympus LS-P4 like frequency response and directional characteristics, the design focus was placed on microphone casing size and the shape of openings. The 90° outward-facing microphone units on the left and right achieve a stereo sound with a natural ambiance.
96 kHz / 24 bit linear PCM recording quality
Olympus LS-P4 supports linear PCM recording at bit rates up to 24 bits and sampling frequencies as high as 96 kHz – far surpassing the 44.1kHz/ 16 bits of CD-quality audio. By selecting this bit rate and sampling frequency, users can make CDs of their own recordings.
Compatible with recording and playback of the lossless compression format, FLAC
The Olympus LS-P4 recorder is compatible with recording in the FLAC format which reduces file size while maintaining the high-resolution sound that goes beyond the quality of music CDs. FLAC allows recording for longer than PCM format.
Manual recording level settings
The Manual Recording Level setting lets you fine-tune the recording level to match the volume of your sound source, maximising the dynamic range for high-quality audio recording. This is a particularly important function of the Olympus LS-P4 when recording music. The Limiter function is effective for keeping the volume below a specific level when using the Manual setting. By checking the recording level meter on the LCD display and PEAK display indicator, you can fine-tune your recording levels.
Zoom microphone for recording from a distance
With the latest directional quality control technologies, switching to directional microphone mode unleashes the power of proximity recording in noisy environments, such as at lectures or when recording from a distant position. You can adjust the directivity by operating with the “-” and “+” buttons. The new zoom microphone mode adjusts the recording level higher according to the zoom.
Overdub on existing recorded date
It is possible to overdub an original performance or song on top of music data such as a music CD or instrumental. While similar to the multitrack function, this is a way to enjoy overdubbing in a simpler and more direct way. For private enjoyment, you can even use sources such as music CDs to make an original recording in which you perform together with pro musicians. This is also a useful feature for karaoke-type uses, for adding sound effects such as the bustle of the city, train sounds, or bird calls, and for adding subtle arrangements on top of existing data to make something original.
2-mic Noise Cancellation function, effective when recording in noisy environments
Olympus LS-P4 is equipped with a 2-mic Noise Cancellation function, which keeps suppressing peripheral noise and creates a clear recording of the voice only, even when in noisy environments, by recording with one microphone close to the mouth. Select the “Noisy Situation” recording scene, hold the recorder vertically, and bring one of the microphones close to the mouth. This allows the recorder to detect the difference in input levels between environmental noise at a distance and the voice in close proximity that are received at the left and right microphones to suppress the environmental noise. Voices that were previously difficult to make out due to peripheral noise can now be recorded clearly.
Direct PC connection without a cable
The built-in USB connector can be easily deployed and stored using the slide lever. With this feature, you can connect directly to a computer without using a cable or software. Not only can you save and share your recordings, but the LS-P4 can also be recharged via USB without having to remove the battery, and the recorder can also be used as a USB memory device
Fade-in/Fade-out function for a wide variety of music editing
This is the first linear PCM recorder that features fade-in/fade-out functionality that gradually increases the volume of the sound from the first second of the sound source and reduces volume over the last second. This links songs naturally when recording live sound sources, eliminating unnatural clicking sounds.
